Artist: Timothy Curtis is a self-taught artist from Philadelphia whose work is the product of a lifetime of self-directed education (received through youthful experience in Philadelphia’s most destitute neighborhoods), and institutional confinement (which predicated a deep and extensive journey into the study of art history).  His work exists at the intersection of drawing and painting, which is made evident in his gestural fluidity and expressiveness.  After establishing a focused studio practice in late 2015, Curtis realized his first solo exhibition in November 2017 at Kaikai Kiki’s Hidari Zingaro gallery in Tokyo, Japan, curated by Takashi Murakami. Previously, his work debuted at the Brooklyn Museum as part of the exhibition “Coney Island is Still a Dreamland (To a Seagull)” by the artist Stephen Powers.  In June 2019, he had his debut New York City solo exhibition at albert-benda entitled, “Things to Remember,” and in October 2019, his work was included in the Drawing Center’s critically acclaimed exhibition, “The Pencil is the Key”. Most recently, his solo show “Temporary Decisions” was exhibited at the Arnt Art Agency in Berlin in fall 2020.  Timothy Curtis lives and works in New York City.
